Last year I went through one of the darkest periods in my life. I felt tortured inside. Alone and broken. I thought I’d never be able to pick up my own pieces and put them back together again.

After about a full year of confusion & sadness, and 6 months of complete downward spiral darkness, I decided it was time to make a change and start rewiring the thought patterns in my brain from HELPLESSNESS to COURAGE.… Giving my bedroom a facelift was the first step to recovery and re-discovery.

TADA!!!!

Whoa… Big difference right?! Yeah. I’m just as shocked as your are. You see, I LOVED my room before. I really did! But, there were a lot of sad emotions and negative energy clinging around in the air. I never felt home in my room. It was claustrophobic and unwelcoming – at least that’s the way it felt to me.

I needed a change. A calming place of safety and complete inspiration… A place that I could crawl into and feel at home, no matter the brokenness I felt inside. After taking one last long hard look at my room, I got my paintbrush and went to work.

My room needed a LOT of brightening and whitening. Although I have a very pretty big window, it only gets about 2 hours of direct sunlight in the wee morning hours. To counteract the “shadowy-ness” (I just made up a new word) from the rest of the day, I chose WHITE as my main colour scheme. VOILA! My rooms botox that it always wanted.

Then I chose the accent colours: my favourite, purples and golds. The finishing touches include live plants / succulents to give me fresh air to breathe every morning. Also a simple old rustic barnyard shelf, straight from my childhood farm house, which gives it a cozy home feel.

The whole updo took about a week. After that, I started waking up with a smile on my face, literally every day. I was so happy to have this secret safe haven, waiting for me to open my eyes every morning and bask in it’s glory. I got back into meditation and positive affirmations and being THANKFUL for everything in my life that happened, good or bad. Finally, I began a wonderful morning routine, full of yoga and healthy eating…

and it’s all thanks for my room redo, giving me the kick off that I needed.

I realize that changing your room may not solve all your problems. But I sincerely hope my own room reno journey gives inspiration to others who may be in or, have experienced the dreaded ‘downward rut’ and are in need of some healing. Even for those who are happy chappies and just looking for something different, a change of scenery is an excellent way to go! Rearranging and painting your space can make a HUGE difference, in the BEST of ways.

It allows you take charge, make decisions and DESIGN your space, exactly how you want to live in it.

Thank you for being on this journey with me, and allowing me to share my stories and struggles. Having your support makes a very big difference in my life. I hope you know how loved you are, alllll the way from little ol’ me. 🙂

Thank you

Light & Love

-Jess

Glad you got rid of the TV, Jess! … and I love the light. Kudos to choosing a nice wall paint that makes the room look more airy & roomy.
I need to update the look n feel of my website – not a total overhaul, more intuitive navigation. I will require new artwork for the wallpaper – let me know if you want to showcase a High-Res. photo of yourself. I’d absolutely consider it 🙂 Checkout http://www.DJAnuj.com
    Cheers from Boston!

I like your room, Jess. It’s very artistic & romantic. I’ve been married for 29 years and 2 years ago I moved to my own bedroom/computer room. I feel way better now, have my own space, can follow my own habits. I’ve got everything in my room I need: computers, stereo, my fave CDs, books. Maybe I would use a small fridge, lol. Take care, Jess, and see you again!
