✨ Soul Healing in South Africa

< back to the blog menu

May 24, 2016

After my first music tour in Germany, I decided to take a little (extra large) stopover before the long flight home to Canada. So I spent 2 months in South Africa doing some soul searching and rejuvenating. I know what you’re thinking… that’s a pretty loooooong detour! – But I’m cray-cray like that. Nothing less would be expected of me. 🙂

This was my fifth time in South Africa, and it was just as beautiful as when I had left it. There is always so much to learn, so much to do, and so many wonderful friends to see. The first two weeks were a bit rocky as I enrolled in a 10 day silent meditation retreat outside of Cape Town. It was probably one of the worst experiences of my life, but a lot of lessons were learned and so the soul grows!

One of the positives that came out of staying in Cape Town was that I got to stay with wonderful human and lovely friend Nate Maingard. We got to chill and talk music, meditation and all things life. Here is a video we did together when we connected the first time in the UK. Spending a couple weeks with Nate led me on the path to soul healing and recovery, and once that ball started rolling, it was time to move on and see other old friends in Durban!

So off I flew like the gypsy soul that I am, to the other side. I was so fortunate to be able to stay with my dear friend Marie & her ten cats and two dogs. She lives on the coast outside of Durban, South Africa and is one of my besties. Did I mention that she has an apartment RIGHT on the beach? I was literally almost crawling into a sand bed every night. It made me so happy!

Most of our days went a little bit like this:

-Wake up with the sunrise
-Yoga & Meditate on the beach
-Healthy Breakfast*
-Hang out with wild dolphins while taking dogs for a beach walk (no joke. We saw dolphins constantly!)
-Lunch
Freelance video editing work
-Mid-afternoon cocktail hour
-Dinner
-Wine + Movies
-Repeat.

*note the healthy breakfast as it offsets wine & cocktail hours to make it 100% acceptable and guilt freeeeee.

In addition to this super chilled daily to-do list, we spent a few days at the Kruger National park were we got to see a whole bunch of lovely blubbery animals! Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo, to name a few. 🙂

I also went to Tala Game Reserve with some other friends where our car broke down in the middle of nowhere. I thought it was hilarious until our water and food supply ran out. While waiting several hours for the tow truck driver to find us, we played banana grams and cards against humanity, and silently prayed that there would be no angry rhinos ready to pounce… as it happened, no rhinos spotted… but I DID catch a Giraffe spying on us so sneaky!

He also made me happy.

Finally, I spent a day hiking the Krantzkloof Nature Reserve trails. Somehow we got lost and couldn’t find our way back to the trails. But what we DID find was a whole bunch of horn-y spiders.

Yes. I know that is a really FRICKEN horny spider! Interesting hey?? I thought so too.

We had to climb a waterfall and hop over several barbed wire fences to get back to civilization. It was a terrifying thrilling adventure, especially because I’m sooo afraid of heights. But, would I do it again?

YES!

🙂

I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Here’s my fun VLOG with all the african adventures I just talked about and more!

Thanks for reading! Thanks for Watching… thanks for being YOU! ….the wonderful human that you are.

With all my love and soul healing eyeball hearts ????
