purchasing The National Parks Album on itunes here!

Last year I was approached to take part in a project raising funds for the National Park Foundation. My role was to help write, record and produce a track that would be placed on a 15 song collaborative album (The National Park Album) with a handful of incredible folk artists. The proceeds of the album would then benefit our National Parks across America.

The man who came up with The National Park Album idea is Fredrik, and he himself is a writer and poet. He wanted the album to tell a story, with each song representing it’s own National Park, to honour and support what’s been called America’s Best Idea: our precious National Park system.

So, after sending a few emails back and forth, I got paired up with Acadia Park in Maine (
and no I have not yet visited 😂 but it’s now on my bucket list!). Fredrik had already written a poem with a focus on “Cadillac Mountain” which is the highest point on the eastern seaboard of the US, offering magnificent landscape views within Acadia. I took bits and pieces of that poem and started writing.

“The Edge Of The Sea” (or “Cadillac Mountain” which is my preferred name for the track) was written in it’s entirety in Canada while I was visiting my sister. I didn’t even have a guitar at the time, but I wrote the song and chords in my head and knew exactly what I wanted it to sound like. Shortly after my return back home to the USA, I got to work producing it, and now I am just very proud of how it’s turned out.

The album is streaming *almost* everywhere online by now – it’s been a slow roll out with some licensing snags from some of the more well known artists, but it should be hitting all digital music stores in the next few months. I believe Fredrik’s goal is to eventually sell physical albums/vinyl in stores like REI and Whole Foods. We hope to raise ample funds to support the work of the National Park Foundation so that the natural beauty of the land may continue to inspire us for centuries to come
 and beyond!

I hope you love this song, inspired by the wilderness and natural beauty of Americas east coast.
